Build an Antenna

Do you have a handheld radio that doesn’t reach out very far?  Would you like to be able to talk to folks further away?  You need a better antenna!  The antennas we are building will work on any radio that has a removable, screw-off antenna (not the ones with the rubber, non-removable antennas).

This course will walk you through the building of your own portable, roll-up, field antenna for your handheld radio.   We will install a PL259 female connector on the end, so you will need to provide your own adapter that will connect your handheld to the PL259 connector on the antenna you will be building.  Without the appropriate adapter, you won’t be able to use the antenna on your radio. Ultimately, you will need an adapter that matches the antenna port of your radio on one end and a male PL259 connector on the other end.

All antennas will be tested before you leave the property to ensure that they will work well for the frequency range of your handheld.

This course will include some soldering, so come prepared with work gloves and eye protection!

Cost – $40 covers supplies for your take home antenna.

Fire

When was the last time you built a fire without a match or lighter?  What about in the rain?  We’ll teach you how to build a fire from a simple firestarter using items you may not have thought of for that purpose before.

We’ll also show you how to use a ferro rod and tinder tube to get those fires going!  and you’ll receive your own set to keep with your readiness gear!

And then we’ll teach you how to put it out!  Have you ever actually used a fire extinguisher?  Do you know what size of fire you should even attempt to put out?  We’ll give you the basics of putting out fires, so you’ll have a better understanding of what you might come up against.

Come learn all about fire in this hands-on course.  Cost – $45 covers the ferro rod and tinder tube you’ll take home.

Hydroponics

Learn to secure family nutrition inside your own home with hydroponics.  Leafy greens can make a world of difference in nutrition and psychological stability.  Hogeye Farm will demonstrate a simple hands-on hydroponic system build.  This is a small indoor system that can grow about 20 plants in a small space, approximately 2′ wide x 1.5′ long x 2′ high.  Using very little power, water and fertilizer, you’ll be able to keep your garden growing all year-round!  Fill out the form below to sign up for this course to build your system that you will take home with you!  Cost – $100 covers supplies for your take home system.

The system we will be building is designed to supply leafy greens such as:
  • Collards
  • Mustard
  • Broccoli
  • Chard
  • Cilantro
  • Kale
  • Romaine Lettuce

Medical

Are you prepared to provide yourself or another person life saving first aid? This course is about applying first aid to yourself and others around you in a critical incident where time is life or death. We’ll take you through patient assessment, using ABC/CBA’s, and traumatic emergencies including Stop the Bleed and using tourniquets, blood clotting bandages, and chest seals. Upon completion of this course you will receive a CAT 7 tourniquet and a USCCA Emergency First Aid Certificate.

Severe traumatic injuries result from forces as everyday as a serious fall or automobile accident, to forces as unthinkable as a shooting or stabbing as the result of an assault or robbery. This lesson will address the assessment and treatment for a number of trauma emergencies including severe bleeding, a penetrating chest injury, flail chest, severe burns, musculoskeletal trauma (injury to the bones, muscles, ligaments or tendons) and trauma to the head and eye.
